You sometimes get blessed with the most amazing soft light at a wedding. When couples start worrying about clouds in the sky and impending thunderstorms, as a wedding photographer you get excited because all of a sudden the sky is a massive soft box diffusing all the direct sunlight you would have otherwise.

This is part two of Karolina and Arno’s wedding in Namibia and it was fun, relaxed and it felt like we had all the time in the world as nothing could rush these two. Give them some blog love, because they deserve it!

Finally I get to post the wedding photos of Karolina and Arno and give them the blog loving that they deserve! If you ever saw that movie or read that book where a boy and a girl notice each other on a crowded London Underground train for a few days in a row, when a glance and a smile turn into a “good morning” and then the inevitable turn of events when the boy gets on train one morning and the girl is not there, leads them to make a date the next time they see each other on the train. If you watched that movie and thought to yourself this only ever happens in movies and not in real life then you’re wrong. That was the short version of how this Namibian boy and this Swedish girl met and came to the point where they tied the knot on an overcast, surprisingly cool day in Namibia.

Loved the decor, the laid back flow of the day (nothing rushed anyone!) and the fact that we had about 2 hours for the couple shoot and family photos before the start of the reception, the clouds, the guests, the food! You guys definitely pulled it off! Here’s the first post of your wedding day and I know you’ve seen these on Facebook on Friday, but refresh your mind and pretend you’re seeing them for the first time.

Wedding | Nick & Amy | South Hill Wine Estate, Elgin

Amie and Nick’s wedding, the wedding that almost didn’t happen because the officiant was nowhere to be found! Luckily, the amazing Emma, from South Hill in Elgin, called a backup and everything was back on track! I loved the details, those of you who have been following the blog for a while will know I get trigger happy when there are loads of details! Amie also did all the decor herself, modified her own shoes as well as her wedding dress. The dress was her mother’s dress and Amie got to work with a pair of scissors and an idea of her own, lost the sleeves and made is shorter (considerably!) and voila!

I’ve always wanted to shoot a wedding at South Hill and for brides and grooms still looking for a venue for their wedding I can highly recommend it! Great service and a beautiful venue with lots of options and Gordon Manuel knows how to serve a meal!

Nick and Amie, if this is the way you rocked South Africa, I know that you’re going to rule New York! Blair, I mean Amie, you just have to get your ‘minions’ to move over from the UK now as well!

Enjoy your memories of the wedding and come say hi when you’re in Cape Town again.

Loved the art on the walls at the venue!

This is when the ceremony was supposed to start, so instead of walking down the isle, the girls are looking at the guests outside and spying on the groom!

And just as everyone went inside for the reception and starters where on the tables the rain came down!

One of the best Guest Book ideas I’ve seen in a long time. Every guest had a blank puzzle piece at their table that they could write a message on. On a separate table all the pieces got put together to form the completed puzzle with all the messages!

I’m can not wait to blog this wedding!! I’ve been looking forward to it for almost a year and when the day for the big “I do” came this couple didn’t disappoint. Even when thick storm clouds started moving in and thunder roared in the background they just kept going and going and going! Meet Arno and Karolina who got hitched in Namibia and are giving me sleepless nights as I edit through the nearly 60GB of photos that I took at their wedding!

Just a bit more patience, they’re coming soon! Oh yes, and I’m tracking you on Instagram as you’re traveling back home, last time I checked in you were flying into Doha! Have a safe journey home and here is a sneak peak at your couple shoot, colours inspired by Instagram of course

Wedding | Anél & Hannes | Picardie Guest Farm, Paarl – Part 2

Part 2 of Anél and Hannes’s (I never know when there should be an “s” after an apostrophe when the word ends in an “s”) wedding photos. What a shoot it was indeed. We started 5 meters from the ceremony area at the dam and then moved to the vineyards and throughout the farm and then jumped back in the car and drove to the Afrikaans Taal Monument which was just around the corner. They were the perfect couple to photograph and could go from being quite serious to hilariously funny in seconds!

Dit was so lekker om julle af te neem en ek hoop julle geniet julle foto’s en die herhinneringe aan jul spesiale dag wat dit terugbring! Sien julle een van die dae by die volgende troue weer!

Wedding | Anél & Hannes | Picardie Guest Farm, Paarl – Part 1

I met Anél and Hannes last year April when I shot Anca and Jandré’s wedding just outside Pretoria. It’s always great when you shoot a couple who you met at another awesome couple’s wedding, because you just know that they’ll be just as great in front of the camera and boy oh boy was I surprised!

These two were up for anything! The variety of shots and locations that we shot at in their just under an hour couple shoot was amazing. And as soon as we got the shot Anél would jump back in my car and off we would go to the next spot! (I must apologise for my driving down the mountain from the Afrikaans Taal Monument…at least we’re all still alive and we’ve got awesome shots to show for it!)

This is Part 1 of their wedding post and I love the veil shots of Anél! As I was editing their wedding photos I came across a few shots that were completely underexposed. (Basically pitch black!) And then as normal when it hits 1am and you’re still looking at photos I played around with a few of these to see what I missed out on, as the shots before and after the underexposed ones were beautiful and that’s when I noticed some hidden gems. They’re down below and I love the grainy look on them!

A girl 5 minutes before getting married

At almost every wedding you spot a moment before a bride is about to walk down the aisle when they go quiet. It’s a good quiet though and a quiet that has to be enjoyed because as I always say to brides, once you walk down the aisle and you blink your eyes it’s 9pm. It’s good to stop every now and again and just take everything in that’s happening around you!

This was Anél’s moment and I can still remember it like it happened just a moment ago. The rest of their wedding will be up at the start of next week and it’s turning out to be a fantastic one so far, a trampoline, vineyards, a dam and the Afrikaans Language Monument in Paarl!

The next shot was completely underexposed. If you had to see the RAW file it’s basically black and because I don’t even delete those ones, I decided that I would push the exposure as far as it would go in Lightroom to see what it was that I missed. When I saw this I just had to play around with the image and this is what I got, quite loving the effect and might just go through past weddings and see what I can dig out there as well!

Part 2 of Taryn and Greg’s wedding at Kirstenbosch and this is my favourite part! Typical of Cape Town this ‘summer’ it started looking like it was going to rain just as we finished the family shots and started with the couple shoot, instead we got a nice bit of cloud cover and soft light to play with. I have to admit that I love a Jewish wedding reception, they party and celebrate like no one else can (and I’ve been at weddings where people party). So besides the fact that I thought for two days that I had a broken toe (a stiletto came crushing down on it) and cracked a lens hood (thank heavens I had a lens hood on, otherwise I might have lost a lens) the dancing shots are my favourite reception shots that I’ve ever done!

Get another cup of tea, put some music on and enjoy!

Trend spotting: Live bands and wedding singers are definitely appearing more and more at weddings. Can not begin to tell you what a BIG difference it makes in the atmosphere at a wedding reception. Definitely worth having a look into if you are a bride currently planning your wedding.

Wedding | Taryn & Greg | Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Cape Town – Part 1

What a way to end off 2011! A perfect summer day, a wedding in Kirstenbosch gardens and a couple who went all out to make it a day that their guests won’t soon forget! Taryn and Greg got married (some said “finally!”) and they also caused the biggest blog post that I’ve ever done. So go get yourself a cup of tea while you wait for these to load, Part 2 of their wedding will be up a bit later.

Wedding | Lizelle & Johan | Poplar’s, Durbanville – Part 2
